Now that our son and daughter are old enough to go trick-or-treating with friends, Halloween has become a much more relaxing holiday in our household. With the kids out from underfoot, my wife and I take the opportunity to have a romantic, candlelit dinner alone. But that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about the spirit of the holiday. Anytime the front doorbell rings, we leap into action.

I remember being sorely disappointed as a kid whenever people dropped an apple or some other healthy item into my outstretched bag on Halloween.
